The Brewers announced three roster moves today, including the selection of Easton McGee’s contract from Triple-A Nashville. To create space for McGee on both the 26-man and 40-man rosters, Milwaukee optioned right-hander Tobias Myers to Triple-A, and moved lefty Connor Thomas from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.
McGee has appeared in two Major League games during his pro career, pitching once apiece in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. That resume would’ve likely been a lot longer if it hadn’t been for a Tommy John surgery in May 2023 that ended up costing him the remainder of that season and most of 2024. The Brewers signed McGee to a two-year minor league deal following the 2023 campaign that allowed him time to recover from his surgery, and his mound work last year consisted of 33 1/3 innings in Milwaukee’s farm system.
Now more fully back to good health, McGee has a 3.44 ERA across 18 1/3 innings with Triple-A Nashville in 2025. His 25.3% strikeout rate is solid but his 11.4% walk rate is on the high side, and significantly higher than McGee’s much better control numbers over the rest of his minor league career.
McGee has worked only as a reliever this season but has a few multi-inning outings under his belt, so he can add a fresh arm and some length to Milwaukee’s pen. The Brewers used five different pitchers in Saturday’s 7-0 loss to the Twins, with starting pitcher Myers allowing four runs on 11 hits over just 3 2/3 innings of work.
After an impressive 2024 rookie season, Myers was optioned to Triple-A last week but then quickly recalled after Jose Quintana went on the Brewers’ IL. The turn-around maybe didn’t help matters given Saturday’s results, and Myers now has a 4.95 ERA in 20 innings in 2025. Today’s transaction probably paves the way for Myers to receive a bit of an extended stretch at Triple-A so he can get himself back on track in preparation for another recall later in the season.
Thomas was selected away from the Cardinals in last December’s Rule 5 draft, but the southpaw pitched just 5 2/3 innings over two appearances before elbow arthritis sent him to the IL in early April. The shift to the 60-day IL means that Thomas will now be out of action until at least the first week of June. Thomas would have to spend at least 90 days on the Brewers’ active roster for Milwaukee to gain his full rights, or else otherwise his Rule 5 status would carry over into the 2026 season.
I thought it might be Jacob Misiorowski. Control has been good lately. Not sure what they’re waiting for.
Don’t know why Preister is still up too. Might as well put Payamps on that dfa’d then bring up Miz, Yoho and Ashby. They going to mess around trying to manipulate the team control on these players and miss out on playoffs along with guys ending up needing TJ surgery. Arnold is getting to cute with the roster.
Priester is there because Woodruff, Civale, Quintana, Cortes, Ashby and Hall are out. I would imagine he would be sent down when some of them come back.
Payamps has been fine the last month or so, did the same thing last year with a slow start and strong second half.
There waiting til June for service time!
Yeah, this is what I’m thinkin
I’m pretty sure that time has come and gone. Rookies can be on the roster 171 days or fewer and not have it count toward arbitration.
Gaining another year of service and arbitration are two different things. If they are concerned about arbitration would probably want to wait until at least mid June but there is no set in stone date as Super 2 changes every year.
This is the Brewers specialty. Ignore the young players for AAAA slop that 4 teams have already tried
McGee would have stuck in the majors in 2023 if he hadn’t got hurt in his one and only start. Not ready to call a guy AAAA slop yet. Sometimes it takes a while to get right after injury.
The BREWERS began this Season dealing with the loss of Uecker, then resting on their laurels of Winning and believing they were that Great of a Team. Losing Adamez and Trading (Brain dead) RP D. Williams for Token Players not worthy of Major League status has shown their Fans and All of Baseball that GM
M. Arnold and Owner M. Atanasio are 2 of thee most Penny Pinching people in the business and don’t need to be running a MLB Team much less these Milwaukee Brewers. Things have gotten so bad they aren’t Winning, and now because things are falling apart in a Major way they are expecting Mgr. Murphy to pull a Rabbit out of his keyster, and Moral is so
Low & Badd… they’re now playing head/mind games with their Players. Yelich as bad as he is performing one might expect him to sit or go to the Minors to find his stroke, but Nooo game after game after game he’s in there for his one hit and a walk and his Pockets stay Phat as always. Murphy will ride this out no doubt, and lose his Job at years end, and look for Arnold to enjoy this same fate!
Sure… blame all this mess on the injured Pitching Staff, but Arnold being the GM was supposed to come as close to replacing Adamez’s Bat, Leadership and Character as possible, and He really did neither, ahh.. well he did something, but he tried to do it on the Cheap, and now we’re All seeing how
Owner Attanasio Penny Pinching ways has handcuffed Arnold. Now as this Team is such
Garbage we’ll watch them SHOW UP, but as far as Good Results, We are All best on Spending Our Time doing something else We actually enjoy doing instead of Watching a Mizor of an Owner handcuff his Gm and putting this formidable Garbage on the field day after day, night after night.
Hell… don’t blame Me, I am A True Brewers fan, but I’m Not going to Sit here and paint
this Rosy of a picture when I know it’s not.
Inclosing…. Myers, they started effing with
him psychologically and now his Confidence is
Totally shot, and to a Player They all see the Money Yelich is Making, but he’s in there EVERY DAMN DAY HITTING… Or should I Say BATTING 3RD with Putrid Results, And Nobody is Saying a DAMN THING. Chourio misses a Fly Ball and You drop him in the Batting Order from 1st or 2nd down to 6th or 7th what the Hell is going on BREWERS, WAKE THE EFFING
UP… YOUR FAN’S ARE WATCHING YOU FROM AFAR, Attanasio You don’t want to fund a Major League Team find a Buyer, Arnold You want to
Act as though your hands are Tied.. Go flip Burgers, and Lastly Murph’ Drop Yelich into
9th and let him know that he too isn’t isolated and should catch as much flak for his performance as EVERY FRICKEN BODY ELSE, AND THAT HE’S NO GOD AMONG PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM.
Feel better now dude4yah?
Trading Williams for token players? Cortez has been a decent starter for years and Durbin might have been Yankees opening day 2nd basemen this year. He just hasn’t been hitting yet so right away it’s easy to say he’s trash.
You’re gonna send Yelich down to the minors? Tell me how that’s gonna work.
Everyone in the business knew Adames was gone this off-season. If Ortiz was hitting .250 nobody would be talking about it. The glaring hole had been 3rd base all season long and it might take until 26 to solve it when someone in the minors takes the job and doesn’t give it back.
They have been playing terrible ball and still are treading water a little over a 1/4 of the way through the season. Hopefully Woody and 1 other starter (Cortez or Civale) can come back and give the starters a jolt.
Classic drunk Brewers fan cry baby. Milwaukee is too emotionally immature for sports. Move the team. Milwaukee is a racist garbage fossil
Yeah… Classic drunk & Cry Baby, Naw that’s not even close, but what this Fan Views is Reality, and it’s pretty obvious
People and Fans like you with similar thoughts & opinions have your heads stuck so far up the Brewers Team and Organization that you pretty much except Anything they do, and after they Suck the rest of this year you’ll be Crying and hoping for better days next year, and the years after that and so on and so forth. Keep in mind they have Never Won feces, and now it’s pretty easy to see them slipping back to where they’ve always been… Lingering at the
bottom and wondering will We EVER get back to the World Series.
I as a Fan don’t care to Sugarcoat anything, and as a Fan I am going to Call it the way I see it and You want to continue hugging their
Gonads better for You
Have a nice day. 😆
Sorry you felt the need to write all that. They trot Yelich out there because they paid him to be on the field. They can’t send him to minors with the rules of baseball. He had a solid season last year, and for whatever reason in this era of launch angle stats, last I seen Yelich had a Negative! Launch angle. They screwed the pooch trading for Durbin sold off by fake news possible opening day 2b for NY. Turang gets to say I’m not moving to SS and force the job for Ortiz to me creates part of Ortiz’s problem. Ortiz was excellent at 3b last year. We drafted Turang as a SS. Get smart and put them where they belong.
I recall years ago the Brewers had the healthiest pitching within organizations and here we are dealing with what seems like a 26man roster full of em on IL.
Miserioski they will wait til he joins that group. Lol. But really super 2 hold back, and you gotta question the innings limit for him on his growth. They can Ashby extend him after finishing the season as a RP.
I agree with most of what you said CK, but have issues with the Yelich 3rd Everyday, and GM Arnold not acquiring much for D. (Brain Dead) Williams I mean this Team is going to be out of this thing Looong before
All-star break, and Arnold and Owner Tight
Pockets Anttanasio have got to except real responsibility for that. He essentially handcuffed his GM by not replacing Adamez or Anything close, and you start the year with 2 guys at 3rd who Can’t be found, and don’t live here anymore. Hint.. maybe they have been Captured by ICE, who knows, but they don’t have this address anymore! And I’m pretty sure that if they had a crystal ball that trade wouldn’t have taken place
Period
Myers crapped the bed against the twins, keep him in Nashville for the foreseeable future till he gets things right. This was a good move. Hopefully this new ham n egger can give us a spark for the pitching
Any more Comments about YELICH, HE’S DONE !!!
KUPUT, IT’S OVER
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THE BREWERS HAD A SIMILAR STAR PLAYER WHO ESSENTIALLY PLAYED PAST HIS PRIME, AND WHEN HE COULDN’T BUY A HIT THE BREWERS RELEASED HIM. ANY GUESSES
HIS NAME WAS CAIN…. that’s right Lorenzo
Cain got released After not being able to
Produce.
Now…. can they Trade this dude Yelich for
Either a Bag of Peanuts or Balls, which one is he Worth
